Being the new guy in town where people speak another tongue can be daunting specially when going out for errands while trying to adapt to this new environment. While it may be unnecessary for some to do the task, it might be the opposite for you. So keep on reading.
If you're like me who do the errands, these Ilocano phrases are just for you. I wrote all these Ilocano phrases I could think of from asking people at home what else to buy, to conversing with sellers and asking for prices and items. I have included the Filipino/Tagalog counterparts as always so let's make that day interesting and fun all while learning new Ilocano phrases. Who knows, you'll probably make someone's day and maybe make new friends.
ILOCANO
THE PRONOUNS
The English pronoun you and its plural form are used above so I want to tackle this a little bit. The Ilocano pronoun mo used above is the English you, used when speaking to just one person. Yo is the correct pronoun to use when speaking to two or more or when addressing everyone left at home. "Adda ipagatang yo?" for example is when asking everyone or anyone at home what they want you to get or buy while you're out doing groceries. "Adda ipagatang mo?" is when you're asking the person you're speaking with on the phone if she/he wants you to get anything.

BE POLITE
Remember to be polite when speaking to someone older or when speaking to an elderly seller. This is done by adding apo in Ilocano, the equivalent in Filipino/Tagalog of po. Let's have the first one above when asking for the price. "Sagmamano daytoy?" is simply asking "How much?" while asking "Sagmamano daytoy apo?" shows politeness when asking an elderly seller.
